School Library Media Studies Participants
I. Professionalism:
A. Be prompt and prepared
B. Bring your journal and other materials as needed.
C. Dress professionally. A dress, skirt, or dress pants reminds students that you are in charge.
II. Journal:
A. Write in your journal daily.
B. Comment on anything you like- it's always best to start with positive commentary, then ask any questions. Comments
on how you might approach things differently are encouraged. Also, comments concerning library procedures and/or practices
would be appropriate.
C. Journals should be handed in or e-mailed in every Friday. I will return them to you the following school day.
III. Lessons:
A. Each participant will be asked to plan and execute two lessons, each lasting about 20 minutes. Scheduling and preparation
will be worked out informally. In conjunction with these lessons, each student will complete a teacher work sample. The components
of the work sample should be completed as follows:
week 1 - contextual factors (community, district and school factors, classroom factors, student characteristics, and
the instructional implications of of each of these)
week 2 - learning goals and assessment plans for your two lessons
weeks 3 & 4 - assessment plans and design for instruction (lesson plan) for your lessons
There should be plenty of opportunities for you to become involved, both with students and with library tasks. If there
is a particular task you would like to practice, please let me know; I'm sure we can accommodate you.
